Your Questions
Who can we help?
Our services are for young people living in the London borough of Brent aged 14 - 24 years. We welcome enquiries from anyone who might want to know more about our Centre.
Who works at the Brent Centre for Young People?
The staff at the Brent Centre are a range of highly qualified and experienced Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysts, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists, Psychologists and Young Persons Mental Health Workers.
What are talking therapies?
The talking therapies we offer at the Brent Centre for Young People dont involve someone telling you what to do or giving you advice. Instead you will spend time with a trained professional who will support you to talk about the things that are worrying you and to think about how you can deal with them. Individual sessions last either 45 or 50 minutes and will happen as often as is helpful to you. For more information on the therapies we offer at BCYP, please see how we can help.
What sort of problems can be helped through talking therapies?
Here at the Brent Centre for Young People we help many young people who are dealing with a range of different issues that could include feeling low or depressed, having difficulties with their anger, violence, worries about eating, drug and alcohol use, problems at school or college, worries about the future, anxiety, family difficulties or relationship problems. However you are feeling, our staff are here to help you when you need it.
I am a concerned parent, can you help?
Sometimes its helpful for the whole family to think together. Where appropriate, we can offer consultation meetings to parents, perhaps whilst a young person has individual sessions with another member of staff, or family sessions where a family might meet together to talk through worries and concerns. For more information about how we can help you as a family or a concerned parent or carer, please get in touch.
I am worried about my friend, can you help?
If you are concerned for the wellbeing of a friend and feel they would benefit from some help, you could tell them about our Centre and encourage them to contact us. The Centre is open between 9.30am and 7pm Mon-Thurs and 9.30am - 5.30pm on Friday. If your friend feels uncomfortable visiting us alone, perhaps you could offer to come with them.
What should I do if it s an emergency?
We are not an emergency service. An emergency might include situations where someone is at risk of harm, feeling suicidal or needs urgent medical attention. In these situations, please contact your GP or local hospital.
If you contact us during our opening hours we will do our best to advise you.
