Mrs. Joelle Alfille-Cook

  • Joelle Alfille-Cook trained as a child and adolescent psychotherapist at the British Association of Psychotherapists (BAP) after working as a teacher. On qualification, she did a further specialist training in work with older adolescents at the BAP.  She currently teaches on the Independent Psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Association (IPCAPA) training, having previously been on the training committee for a number of years.  She contributed a chapter on assessing adolescents in “Through Assessment to Consultation” (2009). She has been a staff member at the Brent Centre for Young People for over 10 years.

 

Ms. Jana Duchonova

  • Jana Duchonova is a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. In the past 11 years she completed clinical child psychotherapy training programs at the Tavistock Centre and Birkbeck, University of London, and has worked in a variety of settings including specialist CAMHS teams, charities, schools and the Youth Offending Service. She currently divides her time between a private practice, where she works with children, young people and their families, and at the Brent Centre for Young People, a leading charity specialising in adolescent mental health. At the Brent Centre she treats young people in the clinic and in outreach settings. As a part this role she also co-manages an outreach service and acts as a Child Protection Officer, which involves assessing vulnerable and at-risk adolescents. During her doctoral training Jana worked in the specialist Adolescent Department and in the Fostering, Adoption and Kinship Care Team at the Tavistock Clinic. Her work in both of these teams involved treating children and adolescents with a range of emotional, developmental and psychiatric difficulties. Jana is a Visiting Lecturer at the Tavistock Clinic. At the Brent Centre she supervises, trains, and provides consultation on issues concerning adolescent mental health to professionals working with vulnerable and risky adolescents. She also works with staff groups on issues concerning role and organizational dynamics. Jana is an MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Practitioner.

  • Sarah Fielding studied at the University of St Andrews, University College London, and the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and is a graduate member of the British Psychological Society. She has worked in mental health for the last 18 years, in both the NHS and the voluntary sector, and has been a staff member at the Brent Centre for over 9 years. She began working on the Brent Centre's Youth Offending Outreach project in 2008, and enjoys researching and writing about young offenders.

Prof. François Ladame

  • Prof. François Ladame is a Training Analyst of the Swiss Psychoanalytical Society. He is a Former Professor of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva, and Head of the Units for adolescents and young adults, Department of Psychiatry, Geneva University Hospitals. Since the early seventies, he has been in permanent close relationship with Moses and Eglé Laufer. He is also co-founder with Moses Laufer of the European Association for Adolescent Psychoanalysis (EAAP) in 1993, dissolved in 1998 to become a section on adolescence within the EPF (Forum on Adolescent Psychoanalysis). Prof. Ladame has published about ten books alone or with other authors, several of them translated in Italian or English, about thirty chapters of books and more than a hundred scientific papers.

  • Jack Novick, Ph.D is a child, adolescent and adult psychoanalyst, trained at the Hampstead Clinic (Anna Freud Centre) and the British Psycho-Analytical Society. He served on the staff of the Brent Consultation Centre from very early on, and was involved in several of the Centre’s groundbreaking studies, as well as ongoing clinical work. A renowned teacher, lecturer and writer, he is now based in the United States. Dr. Novick has published widely in professional journals and has co-authored 5 books with Kerry Kelly Novick, translated into several languages. The most recent is “Freedom to Choose: Two Systems of Self-Regulation.” He has served two terms on the Board of the International Psycho-analytic Association and is the President-Elect of the Association for Child Psychoanalysis.

  • Kerry Kelly Novick is a child, adolescent and adult psychoanalyst, trained at the Hampstead Clinic (Anna Freud Centre) and the Contemporary Freudian Society of New York. She served on the Brent Centre’s staff for several years in the 1970s. Mrs. Novick teaches on the faculties of numerous psychoanalytic training centres, and is widely published in both professional and popular outlets, as well as co-authoring 5 books with Jack Novick. She has served on the Executive of the British Association for Child Psychotherapy and was North American Editor of their journal for 10 years. A past President of the Association for Child Psychoanalysis, she serves on the Board of the American Psychoanalytic Association and is current Chair of the IPA’s Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis Committee.
