Helping young people face mental health challenges together

About Brent Centre for Young People

Leading the way in adolescent mental health

The Brent Centre for Young People is a leading mental health charity. Each year we provide vital support to over 800 young people in London struggling with a wide range of challenges.

Our services About us

Case study

Last year we helped over 800 young people like Precious

Precious was concerned about her safety, but kept this from her family and friends, who she felt neglected her.  As a model student at school, Precious had been selected as head girl, but Covid-19 lockdowns had exacerbated her struggles, as she suffered from extreme fatigue and debilitating anxiety.

Annual Review

1 in 5 adolescents experience a mental health issue every year

The number of young people in contact with Children and Adolescents Mental Health Services (CAMHS) has increased fourfold since April 2016

In the past 3 years, we've experienced a 233% rise in the number of young people with severe symptoms such as suicide ideation and self-harm

Feedback from young people

“Usually I’d just bottle my feelings up. Talking to someone made me feel more grounded.”

“I don't have automatic negative thoughts anymore. I look for the positive in any distressing situation I have and try to use stress relieving techniques e.g. meditation instead of self harming as a way to express my anger.”

“I was able to have a safe, consistent and comfortable space to express my feelings and feel like I was listened to and taken seriously. It helped me push through depressive suicidal feelings and focus on more positive growth.”

“It was a place of support and warmth. I am glad I was able to get a place there, it has really helped keep me stable. Thank you :). ”

“It felt like problems that other people wouldn't have thought were so important were taken more seriously.”

“Learning how to cope with things myself and allow myself to feel my feelings.  I am able to be more independent. I'm able to use the tools used in counselling and the help from my counsellor to resolve my own problems”

“Safe space to talk. Safe environment. You're not being judged, you're being supported. ”

“My therapist really helped me to open up about my past and traumatic experiences and accept them in a way that I am never ashamed of what I have been through. ”

“I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't gone to them for help. ”
