Our services

We provide talking therapy for young people, including one-to-one, group, and parent work. Therapy sessions take place at our centres in Brent, Westminster, Inverness and a number of schools and outreach settings in Brent.

The therapies are based on psychodynamic psychotherapy where, alongside an experienced child & adolescent psychotherapist, each young person explores the roots of challenging behaviours, thoughts, and feelings. The therapist helps them to work through negative, traumatic experiences to build a brighter future.

The talking therapies are specifically tailored to young people. They are supportive, flexible, non-judgmental and confidential.

You will need a referral for most of our services before you can be offered help.

Who we help

Our services are available for young people aged between 14 and 21 facing various challenges and barriers related to mental health.

Our main Centre is in Brondesbury Park, and most of the young people we see live in Northwest London, in or near the London Borough of Brent. We also have a smaller Centre in Westminster, which services young people in that area.

If you are unsure whether you can access our services, please contact us.

What we help with

Our services can help young people with depression, anxiety, low mood, self-harm, and many other challenges. We support them during difficult relationships with family, with peers, during periods of exam anxiety, concerns around gender identity, and other issues.

If something is worrying you then talking about it can usually help, and our therapists have helped many young people with different types of difficulties over the years.

In-house services

Individual therapies, group therapies and family therapy are offered at both the Brent Centre for Young People and Westminster Centre. We offer a number of talking therapies for young people. Our services are based on psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is used to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Individual therapies

We offer Adolescent Exploratory Therapy (AET) and psychotherapy. AET is a unique therapy developed by the Brent Centre to meet the specific needs of adolescents, typically for up to a year. For those who have had AET and need additional support, the Centre offers psychotherapy for up to another three years

Practical support

Offered alongside therapy for as long as needed, and designed to help young people access key services across education, health, housing, and employment.

Parent work

Sometimes the challenges young people are dealing with in therapy indicate that it would be beneficial for parents to receive support to further the understanding of their child's mental health needs. Therapists at the Centre provide meetings with parents to support adolescents in therapy.
